Another Exciting day at the Borlaug Chess Club! We Saw Nathan Wei dethroned by Vladimir Tivanski, Aaron Smith Battled Barry Vigil for the 3rd spot on the ladder, I see rematches brewing next week. On the Chess Ladder as a reminder you cannot play someone that is greater than 7 positions above you. It will not count and please please please put last names when recording results Sebastian played Bob and I have no Bob on my chess club list and Alexander played Benji and I have no Alexander on my list unless it is a middle name or nickname. (Update, I went to their classrooms and tracked down the results, Bob is Jikun Zhang and Alexander is Alexandra Curtu)
Big Thanks to Levant Bayman for labeling the new chess pieces, and to Mr. Wei for working on the chess skills book. We have cool notation books with Borlaug logo stickers for those students completing the skills checklist.
We Will be having a Borlaug Chess Club Mini Tournaments in the Media Center on the 18th of October and the 15th of November right after school there will be two sections Unrated and USCF Rated. Both sections will be G/30 for three rounds. Start times will be 2:30, 3:30, and 4:30 so if you cannot be at one of the rounds you can request a bye. There will be no trophies just bragging rights.

We have grown again! 29 Students today at chess club. I saw some great chess out there! We started our chess ladder! Nathan Wei dethroned Barry Vigil to take the top spot. Next week we will be setting out a paper copy and going over the rules for the chess ladder. We also have a catalogue for a group order we plan for October 1st. Online you can look at US Chess Sales, when we order together we save on shipping and get a group discount. So that 40 dollar chess clock with 20 dollars of shipping and handling will be a 38 dollar chess clock and 3 dollar shipping and handling. http://www.uscfsales.com to look at ideas. I will have a hard copy catalog at chess club.
And Shunguang Wei is checking off students on the essential skills checklist! Find Shunguang during chess club and demonstrate your knowledge, when you complete the checklist there will be a special prize!
Here are the Results from today's club

Hey! the Chess Ladder for Todays Club meeting is up!
Thanks again for the wonderful enthusiasm! the positions on the ladder are simply in the order in which the students signed up. You can play anyone within 5 positions of yourself and give me the match results when the game is completed. If the game is not completed during chess club, it will not count, however we might be able to write down the positions and continue the game next week. If someone wants to do that I will go to the board and help.
The Skills notebook will be starting next week as well. I will have stickers and you can come see me during the club and demonstrate your abilities and earn stickers for your chart!
Tournament at Kirkwood Community College in Iowa City this weekend! Saturday! Sept 8th! 10am! be early to register!
